About Us
The Producers
CAROLYN CASTIGLIA is the co-producer and host of Chicks and Giggles. Her comedy has been featured on VH1, BestWeekEver.tv, MTV2, MTVU, Style, Oxygen, Sirius Radio, Superdeluxe and The Post Show. You may have seen her live at Comix, the Laugh Factory, Caroline’s, Gotham, Laugh Lounge, Ars Nova, PS 122, RiFiFi or (of course) Mo Pitkin’s. In addition to performing, Carolyn keeps several blogs, recommended by such fine publications as Gawker and Redbook and contributes to Life & Style magazine. When she’s not blogging, she’s taking pictures of her adorable baby or the sights in New York City. If she’s not doing any of the things previously mentioned, chances are she’s eating nachos.
NICHELLE STEPHENS is the founder and co-producer of Chicks and Giggles. She’s also a blogger, bookkeeper and freelance publicist who has contributed to Gothamist, New York Cool, Black Table and Naughty Spanking Stories from A to Z 2. She has read her humor essays at Barbes, Bowery Poetry Club, Galapagos, and PS 122. In addition to Chicks, she is currently working on a book proposal about cupcakes with her friends over at Cupcakes Take The Cake.
The Show
Chicks and Giggles ran as a weekly showcase for three years in New York City, and has been in existence since May 2004, at first as a monthly and then bi-weekly event. Chicks features the best comics from New York and around the country. We represent a broad array of up-and-coming and professional talent of all races and ages. The show maintains an improvisational feel where anything can and does happen, including magical musical comedy, freestyle rap, ventriloquism, characters, and plenty of socializing at the bar. It’s never the same show twice with a rotating roster of over 100 comedians.
The show has been given a star several times in Time Out New York and is regularly featured in AM New York and The Onion. Chicks and Giggles has also been mentioned in the venerable New Yorker magazine and the New York Times, in addition to its full-page coverage in the December ‘06/January ’07 issue of BUST magazine. Chicks and Giggles is proud to have participated in the 2004, 2005 and 2006 New York Underground Comedy Festivals. In August 2006, a special Chicks and Giggles/Rejection Show combination event called “Chicks Love Rejection” was featured on the ABC World News with Charles Gibson in a segment called “The Art of Rejection.”
In addition to the weekly show, Chicks and Giggles held two benefits in November 2005, the first for the Contemporary Council of the YWCA of New York City and the second, called “Chicks and Gaygles,” for God’s Love We Deliver, featuring “New York’s funniest dykes, fags and hags.”
In the Spring of 2008, Chicks and Giggles performed at Roanoke College and New York University in honor of Women’s History Month. Previously played colleges include Columbia University. In August 2006 the show was selected to be part of PS 122’s summer season at “the world’s most beautiful traveling venue,” Spiegeltent.
Chicks and Giggles is on a brief hiatus until April or May 2008 when it will resume as a monthly event. We look forward to seeing you soon!
