Chicks and Giggles

I know it is January 14, but it is totally okay to say it at least until Martin Luther King Day. Chicks and Giggles is tomorrow and every Tuesday! Plus we’re going to Roanoke College in March.

“The ECNY Awards, New York’s original comedy awards, will return this Winter, completely revamped with a new production team, after an almost two year hiatus. The ECNYs will continue to celebrate the comedic performing arts in New York City by honoring the best and funniest performers, shows, and producers working in the field.”

Chicks and Giggles alum, Karith Foster, is Don Imus new sidekick. I am a big fan of Karith’s and wish her superstardom. Karith performed recently on our debut show at Ochi’s and her mom was in town visiting. Go Karith!

Recently, we had special guests onstage for Chicks and Giggles, Tom4Prez and Joanne Morton.

Tom4Prez is a candidate for president. Tom is a doll, but has more energy than most politicians. Tom4Prez has created TOP 5 PRIORITIES to define what he feels is important for US Citizens. If we can focus on these Top 5 Priorities – follow action steps – change is possible. Perseverance is key … working together makes it a little easier.

Friends: Nichelle and Carolyn are celebrating their birth, on the day that marks their birth, being today, November 27, with a hell of a show tonight!  Be sure to come on down!

In other news: I (Carolyn) interviewed the OG of Feminist Comedians, Becky Donohue, for Stage Time Magazine.  You can read the Q&A here. 

Also, if you like girl comics who like sex, you should definitely read this anonymous diary from New York Mag’s Daily Intelligencer.  This comedian may or may not have performed on our show in the past.  Ahem.

I took a picture of the Chicks and Giggles menu at Ochi’s and fully intended to take photos of the performers, but since I wasn’t sure how to take pictures without the annoying flash, I decided to sit back and enjoy the show.

It was great show guest-hosted by Jess Wood. Starting off with Shannon Hatch from LA, we rolled into the delightful ukulele-playing Jen Kwok. She then rocked out on her glockenspiel with her friend Eric.

Next up was another duo, Pembroke and Lu. Then our surprise guest, JIM GAFFIGAN did a set about hammocks and ketchup. My new favorite word is “indoorsy.”

Then Andrea Alton was in character as a budget wedding planner, and Samantha Jones ran with wild horses. The final act was the musical stylings of Robin Gelfeinbein.

Asa (our aforementioned biggest fan) managed to take one shot at Comix last night.  So it’s of the sign out front – some day this will be sold on Ebay for at least $5.
