Girls on Film

October 24th, 2007

Here’s an interesting piece on comedic roles for women by LA Times writer Carina Chocano, via The Apiary.  Anyone wanna go see Gone Baby Gone?  I bet it’s gonna be HILARIOUS!

Debut a huge success!

October 23rd, 2007

Thanks to everyone who came out to our debut show tonight – it was an excellent time!  “The champagne room” as I’ve taken to calling it was packed and comics and audience alike had a wonderful night.  I meant to take pictures but I was distracted by all the glitz and glamour of the mini-chaises at the bar.  Next week I will shutterbug it, I promise.  Big ups to Kambri Crews who put everything together and is such a gem to work with.

See you next Tuesday!  (When was the last time someone said that to you and didn’t mean something nasty about your VJ, hmm?)

OMG, it looks great in here!

October 23rd, 2007

Thanks, we know.  We had our fabulous designer friend Shawn Hollenbach create a new header for us to match the color scheme of Ochi’s Lounge at Comix.  After hours of trying to figure out the mysteries of Wordpress, I got the image uploaded and here we are!  Luckily our number one fan, Asa Williams, took a great picture of Nichelle and I after our last show at Mo’s that totally matches our new look – you can see that on the About Us page.  Most importantly, you can see us LIVE tonight at our debut show at Ochi’s.  Be there!

What a wonderful way to say goodbye…

October 18th, 2007

I am so happy to report that our last show at Mo’s couldn’t have been better.  There were about 60 people there and everyone was great – the audience, the comedians, and our biggest fan, Asa, who took these fabulous photos:

From L to R: Bernadette Pauley, Aparna Nancherla, Mara Herron, Hari Leigh, Nichelle Stephens, Nicole Korkolis, Carolyn Castiglia, the show sign and Mo’s flaming blue neon front.

We also had a great set by Amanda Beals and Jess Wood, Rachael Parenta, Jackie Monahan and Michele Colyn shared some wonderful memories about the show and the space.  It’s been a fun two years, but it’s time to move on to bigger and better things!  Besides, no comic should be in a relationship for more than two years – it’s just not natural.  So, see you next week at Ochi’s!

Farewell Mo’s, Hello Ochi’s Lounge!

October 3rd, 2007

It is with mixed feelings of sadness and glee that I must announce after two years at the fabulous Mo Pitkin’s, our last show there will be Tuesday, October 16 at 8 pm. However, I am thrilled to announce that our new home will be Ochi’s Lounge at the beautiful Meatpacking District locale, Comix! Here are a few pictures of the space. It’s not fully finished yet, but features a luxe bar which will host drink specials just for our show (!), a state-of-the-art sound system and multi-media capability.

We’ll be unveiling some changes to the website over the next few weeks as well. We look forward to this new phase and can’t wait to see you at Comix!

Chicks and Giggles premieres at Comix Tuesday, October 23 at 8 pm. Comix is located at 353 West 15th Street at 9th Avenue. The show will still be FREE for all!

Raising Hell at Time Out New York Lounge

September 22nd, 2007

This was the second week of our second show, Chicks and Giggles’ Hell’s Angels, and it was a blast! Host Margot Leitman and her “coke haircut” regaled the small but loud crowd with her story of a fight she witnessed after a comedy show. Rosie Rebel’s set was crazy! She showed the crowd how much you can move around with a mic and a mic stand while wearing with hot pink tights. Sara Benincasa was a dirty delight with her sexy stories. Then Helen Hong shocked the crowd with tales of her Banana Republic days. Del closed the show with a crack about a crackhead. If you want to know the stories, the set-ups and the punchlines, come to midtown next Friday!

O, I C, U R… OK.

September 19th, 2007

Last night we had another great crowd for another great show!  The enchanting Claudia Cogan kicked things off with her disdain for hipsters and her witty crowd work as she ushered two latecomers into the room.  Catie Lazarus batted second with an average of 1,000, riffing on such lighthearted topics as Lebanon and Darfur, with slugger Joselyn Hughes right behind dishing about her credit card bill from one too many plays on the digital jukebox.  The title of this post refers to a clever bit Erica Skeete has about being “Black British” and applying for jobs, which was followed by the observations and complaints of the delightful (and pregnant!) Clea Wilson.  The show was brought home by none other than Lady Pat Candaras, who is always as enlightening as she is entertaining.  (When you click the link I’ve provided for her, please know that you will see a bizarre 30 second commercial for Green Giant or something first, but then you’ll be rewarded with a great feature on her from her recent appearance on Funniest Mom in America III.)

If you’ve been kicking yourself for missing the show downtown loves, you’re right!  Why don’t you come on down and see us sometime?  We’ve got outstanding lineups set all the way through 2008!  Tuesdays at 8 pm, Mo Pitkin’s, 34 Ave. A.
